In grateful appreciation of Hazel Joske
I wonder if Hazel Joske is aware the fact that her services to chess in 1979 are now being re-appreciated thanks to a second-hand book dealer who came across this inscription:
I’d be very interested to hear from anyone who knows any of the names or can tell a bit of a story about this book.
The book is a copy of The Golden Dozen, by Chernev. If you’re interested in buying the book you can contact Bower Bird Books & Things on 02 6959 2770 or branding963@hotmail.com.au
They are asking $100 for the book, but I’m sure they’d be happy to haggle!

Great Story
Myself being known as the last known man standing of the Doncaster Chess Club i think it should be donated backwards i promise to look after it…
I think Hazel used to make the Tea and biscuits for the boys and occasionly bring a home made cake along , still remember the price it was 50 cents per night for refreshments…
Hmm. Well, there was a famous Victorian in the 1930s named Joske – famous as a bridge player. I wonder if there is any connection? I’d love to know this, I tried to track down information about him when I was writing a history of Australian bridge and dismally failed. He simply disappeared, as far as I could see.
